Announced the most expensive car in the world
For its 110th anniversary, the French manufacturer of luxury sports cars Bugatti Automobiles SAS introduced the hypercar La Voiture Noire (the "black car"), which is called the most expensive new car in the world.
The price of the hypercar, made in a single copy, is 11 million euros, the Bugatti report says. All La Voiture Noire parts are handmade.
In 2017, Rolls-Royce (LON: RR) launched the glass-roofed Sweptail car. The estimated value of a single copy of Sweptail is $ 12.8 million, slightly more than 11 million euros at the current exchange rate. And the unique 2018 Pagani Zonda HP Barchetta was priced at an even higher price of $ 15 million.
The unique Bugatti car is already sold. Its new owner is unknown; in a press release he is simply called "a big fan of the brand." However, sources at Bloomberg claim that the former head of Volkswagen (DE: VOWG_p), Ferdinand Piech became his owner. Bugatti is one of 12 brands of the Volkswagen Group.
A hyper car is a modern interpretation of the Type 57 SC Atlantic coupe developed by the son of the company's founder, Jean Bugatti, in 1936. Bugatti chief designer Achim Anscheidt has proudly stated that the six La Voiture Noire tailpipes do not only emphasize the relationship with the legendary model but they also "make it clear that it isn’t the electric car in front of you."
